Our Story
From remembrance to prevention
Step Up for Health is now in its third year. The event originally began as Walk Out on Tobacco, created to honor and remember the lives lost due to tobacco in Douglas County.
As the event has grown, so has its purpose. While we continue to recognize the impact tobacco has had on our community, we are now taking a broader prevention approach focused on connection, early action, education, and community health.
Step Up for Health reflects that shift — honoring the past while inviting people to take action for a healthier future.
Community-led
The event is organized by the Tobacco Policy Committee and sponsored by prevention and community health partners committed to supporting Douglas County.
What makes this year special
- •Community partner tables with resources and information
- •Games and activities for attendees
- •Music and a fun community atmosphere
- •Free cancer screenings from local healthcare providers
